The cape is a national forest park of juniper and thyme scrub pressed flat by the wind, with a path along the top of the cliffs above the caves and coves out to the tip, and the sea has cut galleries into the base of the cliffs at the Palatia caves, where the water inside is clear enough to read the rock on the bottom and the ledges above are jumped from at heights to choose; the Kamara tou Koraka, the Crow's Arch, is the cape's signature span, looking straight out at the sunrise, and it is no longer walked over, since the rock is cracking. Boats run out of Ayia Napa and Protaras to the inlets with no way down from the land, including the Blue Lagoon on the western side, where the swimming is off the boat, and the sea stays warm enough for the caves and the jumps well into October.\n\nFor nearly half a century the tallest things on the headland were not rock but steel, a forest of masts from which Radio Monte Carlo broadcast to the Middle East, and the fishermen of the coast have a name for whatever sometimes drags their nets away, To Filiko Teras, the friendly monster.
